Basically it's me at the moment.. minus the afro hair do.

Three little birds, sat on my window.
And they told me I don't need to worry.
Summer came like cinnamon
So sweet,
Little girls double-dutch on the concrete.

Maybe sometimes, we got it wrong, but it's alright
The more things seem to change, the more they stay the same
Oh, don't you hesitate.

Girl, put your records on, tell me your favorite song
You go ahead, let your hair down
Sapphire and faded jeans, I hope you get your dreams,
Just go ahead, let your hair down.

You're gonna find yourself somewhere, somehow.

Blue as the sky, sombre and lonely,
Sipping tea in the bar by the road side,
(just relax, just relax)
Don't you let those other boys fool you,
Gotta love that afro hairdo.

Maybe sometimes, we feel afraid, but it's alright
The more you stay the same, the more they seem to change.
Don't you think it's strange?

Girl, put your records on, tell me your favorite song
You go ahead, let your hair down
Sapphire and faded jeans, I hope you get your dreams,
Just go ahead, let your hair down.

You're gonna find yourself somewhere, somehow.

Just more than I could take, pity for pity's sake
Some nights kept me awake, I thought that I was stronger
When you gonna realise, that you don't even have to try any longer.
Do what you want to.

Girl, put your records on, tell me your favorite song
You go ahead, let your hair down
Sapphire and faded jeans, I hope you get your dreams,
Just go ahead, let your hair down.

Oh, You're gonna find yourself somewhere, somehow

a lost valentine...

So here's an update on my life.. since I haven't done that in awhile:

I'm currently in spain, barcelona to be exact, with George and Larry. We got here yesterday after being in madrid, which was fantastic. Barcelona is a phenomenal city and I can't wait to see more of it. We have a great little apartment that they rented and even though things keep breaking (the sink, towel hangers on the wall) all of which we blame on the landlord Luis, it's really cute and so nice to have a little haven to relax in after a busy day of walking.

Speaking of walking, here is an update on my foot injuries: so the ankle continues to be sprained, not much to do about that. The real story lies in the splinter foot. I will remind you all that I got a splinter in my foot a month and a half ago, thought I had gotten most of it out, and have been walking on it since then, seeing several doctors who have been baffled by why my foot still hurts since they can't feel or see anything inside. So the other day it gets really infected and I go to a really nice english-speaking clinic in madrid. The doctor numbs it so he can clean it out and is saying "no.. I really don't see anything.. maybe we should do an x-ray.." then after a little bit goes "oh wait, here it comes.." and pulls... an INCH LONG SPLINTER out of my foot. Yes folks, that had been there for a month and a half. No wonder my foot hurt. So when I thought I had gotten most of the splinter out, looks like I had only scraped the tip of the iceburg. Apparently the splinter just went straight into my foot. Cute, right? Right. So my foot feels a LOT better now... funny what a difference taking a mighty redwood out of your foot will make.

Emotionally not feeling so great... we've had a pretty rough blow in the Getz family... Crystal died yesterday. She had been doing alright but in the past few days went downhill really quickly. She died on her own at home with my dad with her, so we couldn't have asked for it to go any better... we have a pretty big hole in our lives right now though. She was such a fantastic dog and it's just not fair that she got sick so young... but we got 8 great months that we never thought would be possible when she fell apart in June. She was out catching frisbees up until two days ago.. then she just seemed to know her time with us was up. so here's to an amazing and brave dog with an incredible will to live and with a capacity to make anyone feel happy and loved.. and who was so loved in return and who I miss so much...

it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...

So it's the day after Thanksgiving.. that means Christmas carols. Nonstop.

I was in the Musée d'Orsay today and it started snowing outside... and there were more people gathered around the window watching it snow than looking at the art. That just really struck me... I mean, here you have these famous masterpieces all around you, and, myself included, the general feeling was that watching snow fall on Paris and seeing it up against Montmatre and Sacre Coeur was just SO much more beautiful... I think the first snow always makes everyone feel like a little kid again. You can be intellectual and analyse these works of art all you want, but if you look outside and see it snowing for the first time this year, you can't resist going to that window and just watching it.

The holiday season has started, the stores have their windows decorated, the cafes have Christmas trees outside, and soon the Champs-Elysees will be lit up with Christmas lights. I've never seen a city so beautiful around Christmas, and I've never missed home more...

Ok, so.. the one thing I really dislike about my mac is photo editing.. bc I cannot for the life of me make a user picture for livejournal small enough.

SO. HERE IS YOUR MISSION. Should you choose to accept:
Find really awesome pictures of Meghan, edit them to the appropriate proportions for livejournal, and send them to mgetz@bates.edu. The End.

No but really guys... bc this user picture is SO summer before last.

PS. There is also something wrong with my computer so that like, I try to send pictures... but they don't show up as being entered into iPhoto. But then I open up iPhoto, and they're THERE. WTF. AND! My webcam doesn't work... I am so glad that I know nothing about computers and am in a country where they don't speak my language. Like I could fix my computer in French.

So I thought it was maybe about time for me to write an entry.

I can't write much bc, shoot, I'm in Paris, I have things to do and I am very busy and important here. Obviously.

France is amazing. I'm finally getting ahold of the language, and everything here is totally overwhelming. In a good way. Imagine only seeing pictures of things and suddenly you're surrounded by them. Whoa.

I don't have many stories yet bc things have been busy and I haven't had time for many adventures, but I'll be sure to keep you all updated. Just know that I love getting emails, so send them to me.

Le Fin.

Seasons of Love

So there goes another summer... and Kelsey's emo entry inspired me to write one of my own before I head off to the airport and start the mad dash that is the end of my summer...

I still can't believe summer is over.. I think mostly because I know CSA will never be the same thing for me anymore.. I will always love it just as much, but it's something different now that we have to... grow up. Thinking that this was the last summer of my being a "kid," where I could be up there the whole time doing my own thing, working at not exactly a real job, and spending all my time with the friends I've grown up with basically just reduces me to tears, as plenty of people witnessed yesterday.

But, appropriately, "Hakuna Matata" just came on Crissie's (my double and best friend forever and ever, without whom summers would and will never be the same) musical montage mix. It makes me think about going to see the Lion King in Traverse with the Grumans when we were little, tubing with Crissie and singing the song at the top of our lungs.. and the times ahead. Even though there are going to be several years where it's going to be hard to see each other, I know that the people that mean the most to me are never going to be gone from my life, and although we' have to close one chapter of our lives and longingly look back on those endless summers, we're beginning a new one that will be just as meaningful - this is the decade where we figure out what we're actually doing with our lives and where we realize just how much those certain people mean to us... No Worries.

So I guess, in short, I just want to thank everyone for making my summers what they always were - unforgettable and, in the words of Penelope, so magical.

summer?

Sooooo guess what? I am up north!!! RAH!

It's getting sunny and warm outside, finally! It has been beyond cold, but according to matt, who is not even HERE and who is delaying crissie's arrival, it was apparently 64. Which is false.

In other news, everyone else needs to get up here and complete the summer crew, or else I will be forced to continue to play disneychannel.com games.. like, I've already picked out a TON of outfits for lizzie mcguire and miranda.. ooh! AND! you can do manicures! AND! That's So Raven has a PINBALL machine. Yeah, the party is endless here.

Good news is that Crystal is back home after being at Michigan State for about 5 days to pull her through her major crisis. There were doubts as to whether she was going to be able to make it, but hopefully she will keep suprising us. Thanks so much for everyone's support, it helped a ton. Hopefully she'll have some more good time left with us.

Anyway, hope everyone's summer is going well, and for those of you that are coming up here, do it quickly. I mean, I can only watch so many episodes of Sister, Sister...

So I realize that I haven't updated much lately... again... but things have been slightly busy.

Here's the update:
For the past few weeks since school ended I've been driving back and forth between Ohio and here with Tim. First we came back from school pulling a UHAUL trailer full of, yes, mostly my stuff. We came up here, then I got my wisdom teeth out which was less than pleasant, I never realized how amazing solid food truly is... or how fantastic an invention laughing gas is. After that, we went to Ohio to see his sister's state track meet and graduation, then came back here.

Another reason for my lack of updating, crystal has a pretty aggressive strain of cancer. She's not doing very well, but she's starting chemotherapy today and apparently dogs react really well to that and don't get sick and stuff like humans do, so the time she has left should be pretty good for her. Anyway, please say a prayer or think good thoughts for her.. she's the most amazing animal and it kills me to see her deteriorating like this. All she wants to do is play with her frisbee..

Anyway, hope your summers are starting off better than mine.. can't wait to be up north.

so long, and thanks for all the fish

So I decided to change the format of my journal again... I got bored. Oddly enough, the theme for this color combination is called "leisure renewal"... which I feel is what I am doing right now...

Once upon a time, there was a time of year called "short term" at Bates College. This wonderful time of year was eagerly awaited by all the students as the most fun time of year, full of kickball, barbeques, clambakes, parties, beautiful weather, and not much homework. However, the evil mother nature decided to play a cruel trick on the students of Bates College. She gave them gorgeous weather during their finals week so they would want to stay outside and not remain inside to study, and then she decided to give them absolute crap for weather during short term. She thought it would be quite amusing if it never got over 55, was always cloudy, and rained every other day. "Because of this weather," she laughed to herself, "the students will have nothing to do and an overwhelming sense of lethargy will infest the college!" As an extra twist to her evil plan, she decided that the forcast for the coming week would include high temperatures such as 77, or even 80.. but when the student shifts their gaze to see the forcasted weather for those days, they will discover thunderstorms and heavy rains. Slowly students stopped having fun.. and they felt hopeless and quite sad. One student, named Meghan, sat on the couch one Friday from 1pm to 12 am watching movies, cartoons, and two discs of Friends because all her friends left Bates for the weekend because it sucked so much... . Would the horrible short term ever end?? Would the students at Bates be doomed forever to remain indoors and become even paler?? Who knows...

On the plus side, I've had a lot of time to watch movies... sooo.. you should go see "Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy," but be prepared for the weirdest movie ever.. although very funny.. "Alfie" is a good movie, and "Phantom of the Opera" is out on DVD and you should get it right now.

last day of spring break

So apparently the almighty livejournal gods are totally against me posting pictures on here... can you even do it through snapfish? anyone? anyone?

Sooooo now I am back from california for the SECOND time this year! woot! And I got to see crissie for the SECOND time this year! double woot! Not to mention the fact that I had a blast with the Bates crew, quite a fun time. I even negotiated our way through San Francisco to our hotel - no easy feat, might I add.. the streets just do not go the way you need them to sometimes. It really built character. May I please say that the roads in SF are insane... so at one point we were trying to get to this accepted students reception.. and there was an accident a couple of blocks ahead of us, so the streets were bumper to bumper and we were at the very tail end of it about to enter the line... when all of a sudden cars start backing out of the line into the intersection at an incredible rate!! WTF! then the car behind us starts honking telling us to go, but we have a red light.. omg.. then once we were out of that and thought we were safe this crazy SF lady with nutso hair runs out in front of our car. crazy. see if I ever drive there again. Good thing Lauren opperates well under stress.

Yesterday was my mom's birthday, so that was fun (ps, I turn 20 in 5 days! RAH!!). She and I went to help the Sudanese at our church with their tie-dying.. and real tie-dying is nothing like the stuff you do at camp, tell you what. I was a complete disaster. you have to do this crazy pinching and pleating nonsense along the lines that you drew, and I COULD NOT do it. the sudanese women thought it was a real riot... I was not amused. I decided that I was much better at tying the rope around the already pleated section... cept now I have rope burns all over my pinkies from pulling them so tight.. yeah, life is really rough.

In other news, it snowed all day yesterday here.. which is good, because I hadn't seen snow for about two weeks, so I had really started to miss it.

Spring?

So... some people update their journals... some don't. Depends on who you are.

I have not so much to report, not gonna lie... except for the fact that it's finally starting to be spring... and yes, I acknowledge the fact that all I talk about is weather... but come on... it's maine... and warmth is kind of a "big deal" here..

So I have an issue with the current gas prices. WHY is diesel the most expensive thing out there, when it is usually cheaper than the cheapest gasoline. It is the most unrefined... so why must I sell my liver just to get a tank of gas??? Nevermind the fact that I am not driving right now since my car is at home.. it's the PRINCIPLE of the thing, I mean really.. if anyone can give me an answer why it has REALLY become more expensive (I don't want to hear about stupid speculators that drive up the cost... stupid people...) it would be much appreciated. This problem had better be resolved post-haste.. or else we are biking everywhere this summer. Yes, even to the drive in. I'll bet we won't have to park in the way far back pink lanes anymore...

So we have finals next week.. and I am having a very hard time believe that the semester is almost over.. I mean, where did it go? So I'm convinced that I have no work and I don't have to do anything.. but there's this little nagging voice in the back of my head telling me that there are some kinda big tests coming up. I wish it would quiet down and let me watch episodes of the OC in peace. I have also watched Judge Judy today which I think is quite possibly THE most amusing show on TV. The people on there defy all reason. Maybe I'm just a bad person, but I kid you not... there was a woman on today that very closely resembled Fat Bastard...

are we in siberia?

We had MORE snow this morning.. and I have decided that it's time for this state to get its act together and bring on the springnessocity.. bc this is getting to be tres ridiculous. I've also come to the conclusion that my body is trying to go into hibernation bc I'm always sleepy and it's because my brain has given up on spring and I think it may be trying to put me into a deep sleep to end my misery. I've sworn NEVER to live someplace where it (a) gets this cold and (b) winter last this long... EVER AGAIN.

On the plus side, I have a shit-ton (that's the new quantity I have designated to the amount of work I have right now) of work to do this week and coming weekend, which is not good parce que this saturday is going to be both the orchestra party that I have to put together and Lou's birthday party (which is today.. his birthday.. not the party.. that's Saturday. happy birthday).. social schedules are far more important than academics, je pense. (I say that to make myself look better.. what's really going to happen is an awesome friday night in the library.. don't tell.. shhh...)

I think that I am going to go eat some chocolate now... cause that will distract me from reading "Wintry Night" for my Taiwan class.. which is kind of like a metaphor for Maine.. cept not the plot line.. bc Maine is not being taken over by the Japanese and there are not land tenants stealing our land.. but besides that.. exactly the same.

SUN!!!

So it is beyond gorgeous outside right now and FIFTY-FOUR DEGREES!! OMG!! Talk about heat wave. It's not going to last very long though.. we have a few more days of this weather, then it's going to start raining, then snowing... you know the drill. blah. But I'm enjoying this for now.

So guess what I got today?? MY ACCEPTANCE LETTER FOR MY ABROAD PROGRAM!!! wooooo!!! I'm going to Paris next year!!! I can't even say how excited I am. It's kind of a bittersweet feeling though, cause it's going to be amazing (I hope) but there are a lot of things here that I'm really really going to miss. I think that everyone should come visit me.. bc shoot, who doesn't need an excuse to go to paris? please...

In other news, I actually stayed WIDE awake in physics yesterday. How did I do that, you might ask? COFFEE. Glorious invention.. nevermind the fact that my heart was going crazy later during the day.. I stayed awake. hah. But no joke, I was soooo jittery in class, and then afterwards I was trying to talk to someone and I'm like,

"DoyouwantotgotoFreeportbecauseIneedtogotoLLBeantogetsomethingandIwanttogotodaybecauseit'stheweekendandIdon'thaveclassandWOO!It'sFRIDAY!andOMGIjusthadsomuchcoffee...."

Yah, maybe that wasn't such a good idea... w/e...

So today I heard a bird chirping for the first time in like, three months.. it was the craziest thing.. cause it just made me so happy. You just don't notice that those things are missing until you hear them again.. oh spring.. it can't come soon enough.

yeah monday 8am class

Ok, let's play a round of "good idea, bad idea"....

GOOD IDEA: Get lots of sleep before having to get up at 7 to be ready for the day before your 8 am boring squared physics class, bring lots of caffiene, board games, computer, cattle prod, whatever it takes to keep yourself awake through class and sit in the back.

BAD IDEA: Stay up past midnight watching the OC for Windy's birthday, only bring tea to your 8 am boring squared physics class, sit in the second row, and fall DEAD ASLEEP with your two friends during class. Make sure to draw a lot of attention to yourselves since you're all sitting in a row...in the front... hunkered down in your seats.. knees up on the chairs in front of you... ASLEEP.

My goal now is to make sure that my teacher NEVER discovers my name.. or else I'm going to fail the class. Three guesses whether I chose the good idea or the bad idea.. that class is like one big tranquilizer. Shoot.

You are a perfectionist. Be weary of being too rigid and limiting your openness to varied experiences. Neat freaks are just as irrational as slobs. A half messy person is, in fact, the ideal. Optimal evolution (according to the research) is dependent on a sufficient amount of random variation and being overly regimented inhibits variation.

<table border="0"
So I woke up this morning with about THE biggest crick (is that how that's spelled) in my neck ever and so if anyone wants to talk to me, don't go to my right side because I'll have to turn in a total circle to see you. Awesome.

So Bates, eh? This semester is actually going to be a lot better than the last one I think. So far I haven't had to stay 12 straight hours at the library, and I've actually been able to do some fun things so far... including shopping at Freeport and snowboarding... which I've actually only done once, cause it's colder than a snowman's asshole out here.. and you couldn't pay me to get on top of a mountain when the base temperature is 1 degree. Frostbite sounds fun and all, but I choose to keep my various appendages. Plus last time I came out of that experience with a whole new set of bruises.. I need to build my pain tolerance back up before throwing myself down a mountain again.

Sorry about not keeping up much, although I don't know who I'm really apologizing to.. since Crissie and Kelsey are the only people who ever respond, and I talk to them online anyway.. so there's really not much of a point in updating, je pense.

victory!

I just finished my 7-page french paper!! woo!! I felt like celebrating, and so I decided to write a journal entry.. which I think is a record for me parce que I don't write them very often.

and also! ALSO! I am conquering my illnessocity. So I went back to the doctor's office today, and they told me I DO have strep in fact.. and that also that my sinuses are swollen shut.. which I did not know because I can breathe just fine. Crazy how stuff sneaks up on you like that.

So tomorrow is my last day of classes, and I think that's crazy because it seems like this semester went way fast, to moi. But I'm not complaining because I'm ready to go home for christmas break and not have any work to worry about, because, to me, that is the most glorious feeling ever. So here is all I have to do: revise this french paper and two other shorter ones, write two four page polysci papers, study for physics, and study for history. And when I write it out it kind of looks like a lot.. but it's not. Parce que I have had way more work than that before. Like five papers, an exam, and a french oral presentation in a week and a half. So this is nothing.

Ok.. and I'm rambling. But I think that's because I've been sitting still for five hours writing this paper and Ihavesomuchenergyrightnow.

20 days till I got to california!! woot!! best time ever. I already know this.

complaining time

ever just feel like whining about everything? parce que I do.. so here goes:

Being sick sucks squared... strep is nasty cubed and I can't turn my head bc my glands are so swollen. I'm always hungry cause I can't swallow anything cause it takes me about five minutes to get anything down. Let's not forget that my antibiotic makes me sick to my stomach if I don't eat enough food.. you can put two and two together. And how about the fact that I still have a fever? Awesome. And what's more awesome than that?? EXAMS are next week. GRAND!! Glad I'm ship shape for studying for those. On the plus side, it's colder than antarctica here which is stellar for how I'm feeling and all the sidewalks are solid ice so I feel like I should be walking with an ice pick.

Time for Christmas Break. The End.

I have a livejournal?

Apparently it's been quite awhile since my last update. I actually wasn't even sure whether I wanted to keep going with it, since crissie was really the only one who ever responded to me, but since I've received several complaints and the threat of matt going emo on us, the entries will continue...

So school, eh? How about that academia? Quite thrilling, if you ask me. And if by thrilling, you mean stressful and busy beyond all reason. I had to spend the last saturday night I was at school before break in the library, and I left only because they were going to turn the lights off, and I thought that the only thing more pathetic than being in the library on a saturday night was having the lights turned off on you in the library on a saturday night. So I promptly went back to the lounge in my house and continued on 2 of my 4 papers that were due the next week. Fun? Sorry.. I'm not sure I remember what that is. Bah Humbug.

SPEAKING of which! It is now time to listen to christmas music!! RAH!! Best time of the year, je pense. We also got soooooo much snow on wednesday, 10 inches from about 1pm to 12am, to be specific. And you know what's fun? Driving around without snow tires... 20 mph has never been so terrifying. I practically kissed the ground when I got home.. cept it was the garage, and that would be gross. Thanksgiving was great though, I ate myself stupid as usual and enjoyed it.

There really isn't much to report.. school is crazy and break can't come quickly enough. And you know what comes with break? SUMMER REUNION 2004!!!! Be there or be a jerk. The End.

blunder #2

hahahaha... my international politics book sucks. Spot the typo:

One hundred million children are without access to basic education, 149 million are malnourished, and every day 24,000 people die of hunger. Over 1.2 billion people liver on less than $1 a day.

You'd think that if I'm paying out the ass for these books they could at least look over them before sending them to the printer, shoot.

In other news, I'm at windy's right now for october break with lou and dylan. It's sooooo nice not to be at school for a little bit, and it was great to take a little break without homework.. although now it's time to start cracking. Especially since I just realized exactly how soon my history paper was due.. eek. Red Sox game was pretty exciting eh? Yankees suck. I would have liked to have seen bates that night.. crissie and I decided that they must have sent the riot police from game 6 there. Yesterday we went to New York for the day which was exciting, parce que it's a foreign concept to me to be like, "yah, I'm going to the CITY for the day.." Next time I'm wearing more comfortable shoes though.. bc my feet are NOT happy with me at ce moment. We saw the play 42nd Street though which was fantastic, I had seen it when I went to NY with my church group two years ago, but we had awesome seats this time and it was marvelous. Then we practically had to sprint through the city to catch our train.. I think that's when my feet died. Heels sometimes are nca squared.. but w/e, they were cute. PS, New York smells funny, to me. Driving home was just about the scariest thing ever though, because apparently everyone else had something against staying in their lane.. we almost got hit like, 5 times.. no joke. That and there were about 5,000 cops out pulling people over left and right. It was grand. OH! AND there was this semi that was weaving all the hell over the road.. so all in all, it was an exciting day squared. H'okay, time to get back to my error-ridden polysci book.. rah.
